Women United

Women United  mobilizes women who strengthen our community by investing in and promoting programs that positively impact our community’s children, families and future.

San Antonio, along with our communities, created the Women’s Leadership Council (now Women United) in 1999 with a handful of volunteers and community leaders. With increasing power and influence in business and in giving, more women join WLC each year.

Today, over 3,100 women are members of Women United.

Council members engage with one another and the community in several ways: supporting education by adopting its signature cause, the Childcare Scholarship program; and participating in events and volunteer projects to learn, share, and grow. United Way’s Women United women continue to have a positive effect on developing successful children, helping students succeed in school, and strengthening families in our community.

We are seeking members to serve as  mentors for our Childcare Scholarship recipients.  If you are interested in becoming a mentor or serving on one of the Women United committees, please click the button below and we will send you all the details!

Message from the Chair...

Laura Vaccaro 1In this exciting time in history when women in politics and philanthropy are demonstrating an incredible capacity to lead and move our country forward, it is a distinct privilege and honor to serve as Chair of Women United for United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County. I have never been more proud and excited to lead other women who share my passion for San Antonio and making an investment in solutions which will positively impact the future of San Antonio families and children.

Together we will go far in changing the lives of adults seeking their college degrees or vocational training by eliminating the barrier of finding affordable childcare.  Together we will create a bright future for their children and families by ensuring they have time and the peace of mind to graduate college and enjoy quality childcare which prepares toddlers for school success.

If you are interested in meeting and interacting with other successful business women and philanthropists, volunteering your time to be a champion for children and families in San Antonio and joining a national network of women who have collectively raised over $1 billion to support United Way’s mission of changing lives, then Women United is a group you should consider learning more about.

Throughout the year we gather to learn more about issues which impact female leaders and their families, to raise funds for Childcare Scholarships through our annual Power of the Purse event, to volunteer for United Way agencies which support families and children and to enjoy camaraderie with our scholarship recipients and their families via literacy, culture and arts events.

I look forward to seeing all of you at an upcoming Women United event and hope you will join us in our fight to end the cycle of poverty caused by lack of degree attainment and positively impact generations of families and children in San Antonio.
