SAN ANTONIO, TX — (June 5, 2014) – Harvey Najim, 2014 United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County Campaign Chair, announced today that the local nonprofit is committed to raising $53,500,000 during the upcoming community campaign.
The goal is approximately $1 million more than raised the previous year. Last year, the campaign raised $52,515,000 from local employees, corporations, organizations, and individuals.
“I am optimistic that we can achieve the $53.5 million goal, and we’ve hit the ground running,” said Najim. “The generous people of this community have the commitment and passion to help their neighbors and make a difference in thousands of lives,” he said.
Najim, executive chairman of Sirius Computer Solutions, selected the theme “Make a Difference” for this year’s United Way campaign to carry on the positive message of donor impact on the lives of thousands of children, families and individuals throughout San Antonio and Bexar County.
Each year, a select group of high-performing San Antonio companies “jump-start” the United Way campaign as “Pacesetters,” and early reports are positive and on-target for reaching the new goal.
The community campaign officially kicks off on Friday, October 17, 2014, at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center and will conclude Dec. 17, 2014.
“We know from history that San Antonians have big hearts,” said Najim. “Donor funds are invested in 133 programs and 65 partner agencies that care for, and about, the people in need across San Antonio,” he added.
Najim, who serves on the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County and Executive Committee and Board of Trustees, is a well-known civic leader and philanthropist. He has more than 47 years of technical, marketing and management experience. His innovative business vision has led the firm to become a nationally recognized technology provider.
United Way launched its first campaign in 1940 and has grown into the largest private investor in health and human services programs in San Antonio and Bexar County. The nonprofit works to help local children prepare for and stay in school, strengthen families, provide emergency care and improve neighborhoods. United Way also operates the 2-1-1 Help Line and fosters volunteerism through the Volunteer Center at United Way.
