SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (December 17, 2013) – United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County today announced that the 2013 United Way community campaign raised a record-setting $52,515,000 exceeding the campaign goal of $51.3 million and raising $2.3 million more than the previous year.
The money raised by the United Way community campaign will help provide much-needed support for thousands of children, families and individuals across San Antonio and Bexar County.
“I am so proud of the generosity across our community. Raising $52.5 million is attributable to the sustained generosity and active participation of so many volunteers and contributors,” said Sheryl Sculley, 2013 United Way community campaign chair and San Antonio City Manager. “It is a challenging time for many, especially for those dependent on the breadth of services provided by United Way partnerships,” she said.
Factors combined this year to prompt more people to seek help — many for the first time ever. “The involvement of a broad section of our community from individual donors, to major corporations and small companies who are strongly committed to Bexar County, make improving the lives of thousands possible,” Sculley added.
Brig. Gen. Robert LaBrutta, commander of the 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio, representing San Antonio’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), reported that San Antonio Area Combined Federal Campaign, which raises funds through military and civilian federal employee contributions, raised $3,612,653. The CFC campaign continues through January 15, 2014. “For our federal employees, the annual campaign provides us a unique opportunity to interact with the community in a very special way,” said Gen. LaBrutta. “In partnership with the San Antonio business community, our federal workforce is helping to positively impact thousands of lives,” he said.
United Way is the largest private investor in health and human services programs in San Antonio and Bexar County. United Way brings people together through the 2-1-1 Help Line, partner agency programs, Eastside Promise Neighborhood initiatives, and other community work that helps children, strengthens families and neighborhoods, and provides emergency services to those in immediate need of food, clothing, shelter and disaster services.
