Financial Empowerment Centers

In early 2013, the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County partnered with the City of San Antonio and Family Service Association to deliver a new financial fitness program model to all San Antonio and Bexar County residents regardless of income.  The Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) is a $3 million grant awarded to the City of San Antonio funded through Bloomberg Philanthropies and Living Cities’ Cities for Financial Empowerment (CFE) Fund.

Certified financial counselors provide free one-on-one counseling sessions guiding residents on how to stabilize their finances, rebuild credit, reduce debt and build new savings the confidential sessions.  Counselors will also link residents to a multitude of existing services and community resources available to assist them.

The Financial Empowerment Center is located at the Claude Black Center, 2805 E. Commerce Street.  As part of the growing effort to revitalize the city’s east side, the Financial Empowerment Center has additional satellite locations at Ella Austin Community Center, Goodwill Good Careers Academy (Downtown), Tynan Early Education Child Center and Wheatley Courts Community Center.  A second Financial Empowerment Center is located on the west side at the Neighborhood Place, 3014 Rivas Street.
