Community Campaign Kickoff
2015 United Way Community Campaign Totals $54 Million
SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (December 17, 2015) – United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County announced today that the 2015 United Way Community Campaign raised $54,000,000, exceeding the campaign goal of $53 million.
“United Way donations are changing lives,” said Craig Boyan, president and COO of H-E-B and the 2015 United Way Campaign Chair. “I have seen firsthand how United Way agencies provide assistance, care, and understanding to those in need. They provide hope for those who are at crossroads in their lives,” he said.
The issues facing the community are complex and connected. Hunger, academic failure, a family’s inability to meet basic needs, and deteriorating neighborhoods are often related. The money raised by the United Way community campaign will provide much-needed support for thousands of children, families, and individuals across San Antonio and Bexar County.
“I am so proud of the generosity across our community. Raising $54 million is attributable to the generosity and participation of so many volunteers and contributors,” Boyan said. “It is a challenging time for many, especially for those dependent on the breadth of services provided by United Way agencies and programs.”
United Way agencies provide food, housing, job training, senior services, as well as help with substance abuse, domestic violence, financial literacy, child care, and much more.
“Uniting together, we’re able to harness the collective power of personal giving, corporate participation, expertise in human services, the energy of volunteers, and the work of like-minded community partners to serve others,” Boyan said.
Representing San Antonio’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) was Lieutenant General Darryl Roberson, Commander, Air Education and Training Command, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. General Roberson reported that the San Antonio Area Combined Federal Campaign, which raises funds through military and civilian federal employee contributions, raised $2,900,000.
“For our federal employees, the annual campaign provides us a unique opportunity to interact with the community in a very special way,” said General Roberson. “In partnership with the San Antonio business community, our federal workforce is helping to positively impact thousands of lives,” he said.
United Way is the largest private investor in health and human services programs in San Antonio and Bexar County. United Way brings people together through its partner agency programs, Eastside Promise Neighborhood initiatives, the 2-1-1 Help Line, and other community work that helps children, strengthens families and neighborhoods, and provides emergency services to those in immediate need of food, clothing, shelter and disaster services.
