Leadership Investments

Being a leader means setting an example for others to follow. Members of United Way's Leadership Societies recognize United Way as the single best health and human service problem-solving organization in San Antonio and generously invest to change lives for the better. They are San Antonio's leaders in philanthropy.

Alamo Society
The Alamo society is comprised of heroes who recognize United Way as the best way to face our community's many problems and provide solutions that strengthen San Antonio and Bexar County. This new level of giving recognizes donors who make an annual gift between $500 to $999.
Tejas Society
The word Tejas was once used to identify an indigenous tribe known for its friendliness and generosity. These are the people who proudly call themselves Texans. It is fitting that the Tejas Society represents concerned citizens with a strong social conscience who contribute $1,000 to $2,499.
Bejar Society
The Presidio San Antonio de Bejar was built in 1718 to protect the fledgling mission San Antonio de Valero (the Alamo). In the spirit of those pioneers who protected the mission which was to become the very shrine of Texas, this leadership giving group is named. Bejar Society members contribute $2,500 to $4,999.
Briscoe Society
The values of integrity, commitment and neighborly concern held by former Governor Dolph Briscoe Jr. and his beloved wife, Janey, were fused to the very cornerstone of their decades of service to all Texans. The true and pledged partnership of the governor and Texas' First Lady reminds us of the relationship that exists between United Way and the community of its devoted donors. It is fitting, then, that their tradition of leadership, loyalty and heartfelt generosity be proudly reflected in the naming of the newest of the premier donor societies for United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County -- The Briscoe Society.

This level of leadership giving makes a statement equal in its distinction and power to the legacy bequeathed our state by the Briscoes. At the same time, membership in the Briscoe Society -- that recognizes and annual gift between $5,000 and $9,999 -- is a long-term investment in an organization that is proven in its efficiency, effectiveness and accountability.

Alexis de Tocqueville Society
Named for Alexis de Tocqueville (1805-1895), the French scholar who wrote enthusiastically about our uniquely American spirit of volunteerism, the Alexis de Tocqueville Society recognizes individuals who have rendered exceptional philanthropic service to their community.

Leadership donors wishing to continue in the Alexis de Tocqueville Society -- through which both United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County and United Way of America honor annual contributions of $10,000 or more -- will be presented with the historic lapel rosette. With its origins based in French Legion of Honour, this symbol mutually adopted by United Way of America and local United Ways, is presented to signify the extraordinary investment in community solutions held by these donors.

  Women's Leadership Council
The Women's Leadership Council of United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County honors and involves women who strengthen this community by investing in and promoting programs that positively affect our local health and human service needs. Membership eligibility is based on annual gifts of $1,000 or more.
