Our Work
“Jim” has been married to Mary for 10 years. They are parents to a 10-year-old son and a six-year-old daughter. A small business owner and a stay-at-home mom, the couple decided to seek counseling because they were feeling estranged from each other. The spark was gone, and they didn’t know what to do.
Teaching them important communications skills, the counselor at Jewish Family Service of San Antonio also urged them to put aside time to be a couple rather than focusing only on their parenting and bread-winning responsibilities. After eight sessions they reported that they were having far fewer conflicts and were thrilled as they looked forward to having special “couples” time.
Jewish Family Service of San Antonio (JFS), a United Way nonprofit partner, has been serving members of the Jewish and greater San Antonio communities for more than 40 years. Because of high demand for social services and mental health counseling, JFS quickly evolved into an independent agency that serves more than 2,000 clients each year. Offering social work services to seniors and disabled persons at little or no charge, JFS also provides more than 10,000 hours of affordable mental health counseling each year. JFS has locations on N.W. Military Highway and Mission Road. Both locations are accessible by public transportation.
